Clone Golf Club Components
Many websites now sell golf club components.
All golf clubs, even name brand clubs, are made up of golf components. Name brand companies don’t often sell their components separately, you can only buy the complete clubs made by the company themselves. The components of the club include the club head itself, the shaft, usually a ferrule, and the grip.
Clubmaking, or assembling the components, can be very easy. The process consists of trimming a golf shaft to the proper length, (you usually trim some off the “tip” of the shaft and some off the “butt” end of the shaft) gluing the shaft into the club head, (using special “shafting” epoxy) and installing the grip with special “grip tape”.
Alternately, you can install grips with compressed air if you have the equipment to do so.
The most critical part of the process of course, is making sure the head stays on the shaft.
There are many tutorials and videos on the internet on how to build golf clubs. Just search that term, or clubmaking or clubbuilding. If you’re just starting out, pay particular attention to the instructions for cleaning the hosel of the head properly, abrading the shaft properly so the epoxy adheres correctly, and so on. The last thing you want if for a head to come loose! If you follow the instructions properly though, that won’t happen.
That all having been said, clubmaking and especially club fitting, can be a very highly skilled profession. It all depends on how involved you want to get with it. If you want to just learn to “cut and glue”, that’s fine. It can be a lot of fun to play golf with clubs you actually assembled yourself.
On the other hand, if you want your clubs (or your customers clubs, should you go far enough with the idea to start a business) to be clubs that really fit your swing and perform the best for your particular golf game, then you’ve got your research and work cut out for you. Clubmaking can be as involved as you want it to be. It can be a great, rewarding, addictive hobby.
Don’t say you weren’t warned .
